Gymnastics: East Ridge edges shorthanded Park

The East Ridge gymnastics team put itself on the map, edging shorthanded Park on Thursday, Jan. 5, at East Ridge High School.

The Raptors scored a season-high and school-record 142.615 in the meet to beat Park, which scored a 141.375. The Wolfpack was without junior gymnast Rachel Deephouse, who finished third in the state all-around competition last year, along with varsity standouts Sarah Schank and Sarah LaBrosse. Deephouse is expected to return to the mat for the Wolfpack’s next meet.

Senior Leah Robinette and eighth grader Megan Trollen led the way for East Ridge in the win. Robinette earned second place in the all-around with a 37.075, taking first place in the bars (9.55), second in the floor exercise (9.555) and tied for first in the vault (9.5). Trollen earned third place in the all-around with a 36.625, tying for first place on the beam (9.25), taking third in the vault (9.425) and earning third place on the bars (8.7).

Park junior Kasondra Tulloch, who was second in the all-around at state last year, finished first in the all-around in the loss with a 37.65 score. Tulloch took first in the floor exercise (9.625), tied for first on the beam (9.25), tied for first in the vault (9.5) and finished second on the bars (9.225).

The loss ended a 13-meet conference win streak by the Wolfpack. Park was a perfect 9-0 during the regular season, won the Suburban East Conference and Section 4AA championships and finished in third place in the Class AA state meet last year.

East Ridge is now 4-0 in the SEC this season.
