New Life boys basketball: Eagles extend win streak to four

After opening the season with a six-point loss to Mahtomedi, the New Life Academy boys basketball team has won four straight games to run its record to 4-1 overall this year.

After opening the season with a six-point loss to Mahtomedi, the New Life Academy boys basketball team has won four straight games to run its record to 4-1 overall this year.

New Life won three games last week – taking down Concordia Academy of Roseville 72-67, beating St. Paul Humboldt 67-46 and topping Barnum 66-43.

The Eagles began the week beating Concordia Academy (3-2) on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at New Life Academy.

New Life had four players in double figures in the win. Senior Dan Otto led the way with 17 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Senior forward Alex Heiser netted 11 points to go along with seven rebounds and junior guard Cam Duffy had 12 points, three rebounds and three assists. Additionally, senior Cody Linton scored 12 points and hauled down four rebounds and senior Raleigh Becker dished out nine assists to go along with five points.

The score was 31-30 in the first half in favor of New Life and the Eagles held on for the win, outscoring Concordia 41-37 in the second half for the 5-point win.

New Life Academy dominated the boards in a 21-point win on Friday, Dec. 16, at St. Paul Humboldt (0-3). Three players finished with double figures in rebounds with Otto and Heiser posting monster double-doubles. Otto finished with 23 points and 14 rebounds and Heiser had 16 points and 14 rebounds. Also, Linton had 11 rebounds to go along with eight points.

In the 23-point win over Barnum (2-1), New Life opened up a 38-17 lead and never looked back.

Otto led the way with 12 points and 10 rebounds, Heiser had 12 points and three rebounds, Duffy had 10 points and five assists and sophomore guard Kyle Linton scored seven points and hauled in six rebounds. In addition, Becker had eight assists and two steals in the win.

New Life played host to Mounds Park Academy on Tuesday, Dec. 20, after the Bulletin went to press. Next, the Eagles open conference play at Lester Prarie/Holy Trinity on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
