The Woodbury gymnastics team fell to perennial Suburban East Conference powerhouse Roseville 137.75 to 115.175 in the season opener on Thursday, Dec. 1, at Roseville High School.
Already forced to turn to new gymnasts with the loss of 2011 graduates Jenna Kilgore and Vanessa Gubbels, Woodbury was without its top returning gymnast in Jordan Rodriguez, who is sidelined with an injury.
In Rodriguez’s absence, Shriya Raje and Maddy Haut turned in the Royals top performances against Roseville.
Haut, a junior, finished in third place in the all-around with a 29.6 score. Roseville’s Emily VanKrevelen won the all-around with a 34.975 score.
Haut’s best finish came in the floor exercise, where she took fifth place with an 8.1. She also scored an 8.3 to take sixth place in the vault. Raje, Woodbury’s senior captain, had the Royals’ top finish in the meet, earning third place on the beam with a score of 7.925. She also finished in fourth place in the vault with an 8.625. Woodbury sophomore Rose Peterson also had a noteworthy performance in the vault, scoring an 8.225 to take sixth place, while the Royals’ Megan George, a junior, secured seventh place in the vault with an 8.175.
Next, Woodbury hosts its home opener on Thursday, Dec. 8, against SEC foe Hastings. The meet starts at 6:30 p.m.
