On the heels of beating Tartan for its first win of the 2011-12 season, the Woodbury girls hockey team suffered a pair of losses last week.
The Royals fell 4-1 to Henry Sibley in a non-conference game on Saturday, Nov. 19, at Bielenberg Sports Complex, then lost its Suburban East Conference opener 8-1 at Mounds View on Tuesday, Nov. 22.
Against Henry Sibley, Woodbury freshman Ashley Krinke scored the lone goal of the game for the Royals, off an assist by Rachel Letsche, giving Woodbury a 1-0 lead after a scoreless first period. However, Henry Sibley scored two goals in the second period, then added two more in the third to escape with a win.
Woodbury had 30 shots on goal in the game.
Against Mounds View, Krinke put the Royals up 1-0 once again, 1:43 into the game on an assist by Erin Goodell. But, Mounds View eliminated its deficit 30 seconds into the second period, making it a 1-1 game. Then the Mustangs scored two more second-period goals to go up 3-1 heading into the third period. In the final frame, the wheels came off for the Royals and Mounds View netted five goals to make it a blowout.
Woodbury had 18 shots in the game. Mounds View had 45 shots.
Next, Woodbury plays host to Cretin-Derham Hall on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Bielenberg Sports Complex.
