A Washington County-sponsored event netted hundreds of pounds of expired drugs, including pounds of controlled substances.
The sheriff’s office announced in a news release that 339 pounds of prescription drugs were turned in at an Oct. 29 drug “take-back” campaign, which it organized in partnership with Washington County Public Health and the Drug Enforcement Agency. The event – which allowed participants to drop off drugs anonymously – collected expired, unused and unwanted medication for destruction.
The event also collected 36 pounds of controlled substances, according to the release.
Another event is planned for spring 2012.
