The New Life Academy volleyball team won the Mounds Park Academy Tournament championship on Saturday, Sept. 24, in St. Paul, concluding a perfect 5-0 week for the Eagles.
Included in their five wins of the week was the team’s 3-0 showing in the annual Mounds Park Academy tourney, which they won on Saturday, beating West Lutheran in the final, 2-0 (26-24, 25-12).
Also, at the tournament, NLA beat host Mounds Park Academy 2-0 (25-11, 25-23) and St. Paul Academy 2-1. Prior to the tournament, the Eagles took down Maranatha Christian 3-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 20, and PACT/Spectrum 3-0 on Thursday, Sept. 22. The five wins pushes New Life’s season record to 14-3.
“Macayla Stone and Renee Barrett have anchored a strong backcourt over the last couple of weeks that has the Eagles playing a smoother brand of volleyball,” NLA head coach Wally Bomgren said. “Their timely digs and serve receives have made it easier for everyone on the court.”
Next, NLA takes on Heritage Christian Academy on Thursday, Oct. 6, in Woodbury.
“In the next couple of weeks, we play state-ranked Southwest Christian and Heritage Christian Academy, both conference matches,” Bomgren said. “Even though we lost senior captain Reagan Baar to an injury, the troops are pulling together like never before, getting ready for the heart of our conference schedule.”
