Woodbury volleyball: Royals’ win streak hits nine straight games

The Woodbury volleyball team ran its winning streak to nine-straight games, improving to 9-2 overall and stayed undefeated in the Suburban East Conference with wins over SEC foes Roseville and White Bear Lake.
Woodbury (9-2; 4-0 SEC) began the week with a 3-1 win over Roseville (25-14, 25-12, 18-25, 26-24) on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at Woodbury, and followed it up with a 3-0 sweep of White Bear Lake (25-19, 25-15, 25-19) on Thursday, Sept. 22, in Woodbury.
In the Royals win over Roseville (7-5; 3-3 SEC), junior outside hitter Sara Biermaier led the offensive attack with 12 kills and three service aces. Defensively, senior outside hitter Olivia Wangensteen had a team-high 12 digs to go along with nine kills and an ace. Additionally, junior setter Kelsey Schultze had a team-high 24 set assists, junior outside hitter Aby Andualem-Emiru had 19 set assists, senior Ericka Johnson had nine digs and senior Chloe Richter had nine kills and an ace.
“The team played consistently and agressively throughout entire match,” Woodbury head coach Linda Crum said.
In the win over White Bear Lake (1-10; 0-4 SEC), Wangesnteen had a team-high five digs and three aces to go along with nine kills, Biermaier had a team-best 13 kills, junior middle hitter Taylor Waugh had 4.5 blocks, Schultz had 23 assists and Andualem and Richter each had eight kills.
Woodbury took on rival Stillwater (7-6; 4-0 SEC) on Tuesday, Sept. 27, after the Bulletin went to print. Next, the Royals play host to Minneapolis Southwest on Thursday, Sept. 29.
