The Woodbury girls tennis team made quick work of Park on Thursday, Sept. 8, defeating the Wolfpack 6-1 for its first Suburban East Conference win of 2011.
Woodbury earned three singles wins and swept doubles play in the victory. The win improved the Royals to 3-9 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
At No. 1 singles, Hannah Robbins won 6-3, 6-1, while Kaitlyn Shea won 6-1, 6-4 at second singles and Rea Zellmer won 6-3, 6-0 at third singles.
In doubles play, Shanna Stevenson and Rachel Eisenrich won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, Katie Kreibich and Taylor Monkman won 6-3, 6-2 at second doubles and Anna Lundberg and Alyssa Delmundo won 5-7, 6-2, 10-5 at third dubs.
Before beating Park, however, Woodbury lost a 4-3 non-conference thriller to South St. Paul on Wednesday, Sept. 7, and was thumped 7-0 by Stillwater on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
In the loss to South St. Paul, Brooke Hayes earned the Royals’ lone singles win, 6-2, 6-0, at fourth singles, while the duo of Stevenson and Eisenrich won 7-6, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles and Kristen Chu and Anna Lundberg won 6-0, 6-1 at third doubles.
Woodbury played host to Cretin-Derham Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 13, after the Bulletin went to press.
Next, the Royals welcome rival East Ridge to Woodbury High School on Thursday, Sept. 15.
