Washington County commissioners voted to approve a zero percent increase in the 2012 property tax levy.

The five-member County Board on Tuesday voted unanimously to set the property tax levy at $86.5 million, which dropped $260,000 after the Lake Elmo City Council voted Tuesday night to pull out of the Washington County Library System.

Commissioners also voted 5-0 to cut the county’s operating budget by 4.1 percent, to roughly $139 million. The property tax levy can be lowered, but not raised, before final approval in December. A public hearing on the budget is scheduled for that month.
