NLA softball: Hohol, St. John, Schmidt earn all-tournament honors

New Life Academy eighth grader Valerie Hohol and seniors Lauren St. John and Rebekah Schmidt were named to this year’s Wells Fargo Class A state tournament All-Tournament softball team. In the tournament, New Life won its fourth-straight state championship.
The award recognizes student athletes who demonstrate exceptional sportsmanship, team commitment, athletic ability and leadership during the state high school tournaments. Athletes are selected to the Wells Fargo All-Tournament Team by a panel of coaches attending the tournament. Ten awards are presented in girls Class A softball.
St. John led the tournament in runs scored with four and batted .500 for the tournament, including going 4-for-4 in the Eagles semifinal win. Hohol also batted .500 with two runs scored and three RBI. At the plate, Schmidt hit .500 and drew a tournament-best four walks. From the mound, Schmidt was 3-0 in the tournament with a 0.37 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 19 innings pitched.
