East Ridge gymnastics: Robinette shines at state

East Ridge junior Leah Robinette medaled twice in the Class AA individual state meet on Saturday, Feb. 26, at the University of Minnesota Sports Pavilion.
In her first Class AA state appearance, Robinette took fourth place in the vault with a high school career-best 9.725 and fourth place on the bars with a high school career-best 9.650. Both scores were school records. Robinette also scored a 9.125 on the beam and a 9.050 in the floor exercise and finished in 11th place overall in the all-around competition with a 37.525 all-around score.
Robinette qualified for the state meet, individually, in every event but the floor exercise. At the Section 3AA meet, Robinette scored a 37.7 in the all-around to take fourth place, and took first place in the vault (9.675), tied for third place in the bars (9.450) and was fourth place on the beam (9.250).
Rogers senior Sabrina Hoover won the Class AA state all-around title with a 38.425. It was Hoover’s third-straight all-around championship. She won the Class A title two years ago for the Royals and the AA title last year and this year.
Out of sections, the winning team and the top four individual finishers in each event qualify for the state meet. East Ridge took fourth place as a team at he section meet with a 141.150 score — a season high and only .5 off the last year’s school record.
Last season, in its first year, East Ridge finished in second place in Section 1A and sent three individuals to the Class A state meet. Robinette, who was the Section 1A all-around champion as a sophomore, led the way for the Raptors at state, taking fourth place overall in the 2009-10 Class A vault competition with a score of 9.60.
