The New Life Academy girls basketball team handed No. 4 ranked Class 2A St. Croix Lutheran its first loss of the 2010-11 season with a 70-67 win on Friday, Jan. 7, in Woodbury.
New Life, which is unranked in Class A, jumped out to a 33-24 lead at the half on a layup by Rebekah Schmidt and held on for the win over the Crusaders (8-1).
Schmidt, a senior guard who leads the Minnesota Christian Athletic Association in scoring at 20.0 points per game, led the way for the Eagles (6-4) with a team-high 27 points. Senior forward Cara Lutes also helped lift New Life to the win with 23 points and junior Regan Baar scored 13 points.
Next, New Life Academy travels to Barnum on Saturday, Jan. 8, to take on the top-ranked Class A Bombers.
