Girls basketball: Park holds on for win over rival Raptors

The East Ridge girls basketball team fell to 3-0 against intra-district rival Park with a 46-32 loss to the Wolfpack on Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Park High School.

The East Ridge girls basketball team fell to 3-0 against intra-district rival Park with a 46-32 loss to the Wolfpack on Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Park High School.

It was the fourth win in a row for the Wolfpack (7-4; 2-2 SEC) and Park’s fifth win in its last six games. For East Ridge, it was the Raptors’ sixth loss in its last seven games, since beginning the year 3-0.

In the game, East Ridge (4-6; 0-4 SEC) held a lead for the majority of the first half, but Park took over late in the first half and never looked back. A drive and layup at the first-half buzzer by Park freshman Temi Ogunrinde gave Park a 24-14 lead as the teams headed into the locker rooms.

In the second half, Park and East Ridge traded baskets, with the Wolfpack outscoring the Raptors 22-18 to hold onto the win.

Park freshman guard Sydney Lamberty led the way for the Wolfpack in the win with a game-high 14 points. Sophomore guard Larissa Lurken added nine points for Park.

For East Ridge, junior forward Katie Hagberg and freshman forward Jamie Swanson each scored 10 points to pace the Raptors. Additionally, sophomores Brianna Walker and Hannah Pignato each had six points for East Ridge.

Lamberty is Park’s leading scorer this season with a 12.8 points per game average. Hagberg leads the Raptors in scoring on the year with a 9.3 points per game average.

Next, East Ridge travels to SEC foe Roseville on Thursday, Jan. 6, while Park plays host to eighth-ranked White Bear Lake on Friday, Jan. 7, at Park High School.
