WHS students celebrate 'Ugly Sweater Day'

Ugly sweaters anyone?

In recent years the concept of the “ugly sweater” party has been a trendy theme among the 20-something and 30-something crowd. But last week some local teens and teachers got in on the act as the Woodbury High School Student Council hosted an “Ugly Sweater Day” on Dec. 21.

“The concept of ‘ugly sweater’ days or parties seems to be a theme that many are doing around the country,” student council adviser Hollie Radanke said. “We think it’s just something silly that people came up with as a way to see those ugly sweaters again.”

Even though the concept of an “ugly sweater” used to mean ugly holiday or Christmas sweaters, it has since expanded to include anything one would consider “ugly.”

During last Tuesday’s spirit day, WHS students donned everything from holiday sweaters they either found or borrowed, some made their ugly sweaters while other simply just raided their parent’s wardrobes.

“I just found my sweater in the closet,” senior Joey Peterson said. “There were a whole bunch of ugly sweaters, I didn’t know which one to chose.”
