Woodbury gymnastics: Royals bounce back at Hastings

After falling to perennial powerhouse Roseville in its first match of the year, the Woodbury gymnastics team bounced back with a 126.6 to 123.3 win over Hastings in a Suburban East Conference meet in Hastings on Wednesday, Dec. 8.
Woodbury senior Jenna Kilgore led the way in the meet with a first-place all-around score of 33.7, which included a first place 8.95 in the vault and a first place score in the beam with an 8.8. Kilgore also scored an 8.5 in the floor exercise and a 7.45 on the bars.
Woodbury senior Vanessa Gubbels earned first place on the bars with an 8.175 score and first place in the floor exercise with a score of 8.875.
Additionally, Woodbury sophomore Jordan Rodriguez placed third in the all-around competition with a score of 31.35. Rodriguez was second in the vault with an 8.45 and third on the beam with a score of 7.95. Also, sophomore Maddy Haut turned in a third-place 8.15 in the vault.
“We are starting to really come together as a team, and they are working hard to improve,” Woodbury head coach Julie Dornseif said. “It was fun as their new coach getting our first win in. Despite kids being sick, they went out and did their stuff for the team.”
