Royals, Raptors win sectional openers
Woodbury, East Ridge both sweep volleyball opponents in Section 4AAA Tournament quarterfinals, will meet in semifinals on Wednesday.
Friday night was a winner for both the Woodbury and East Ridge volleyball teams as both the second-seeded Royals and third-seeded Raptors won their respective opening matches in the Section 4AAA Tournament.
The Royals shutout Roseville (25-15, 25-19, 25-14) behind seven kills from hitter Nicola Kim and 22 assists from setter Sam Sullivan.
The Raptors had an equally easy time with North St. Paul in a three-game (25-12, 25-13, 25-19) win. Individual results were not available.
The teams now face each other in the 4AAA semifinals at 5:45 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 3 at Stillwater High School with a trip to the sectional title game hanging in the balance. The Royals won this autumn's regular-season matchup in five games and have yet to lose to the Raptors in the brief history between the teams.
