Reasons for running for School Board: Curiel said he decided to run for the District 622 School Board because he currently has three children attending school within the district.
“I want to make sure as we move toward the district my kids are still going to get a quality education,” he said.
Additionally, Curiel said he wants to help the district move in the right direction.
Platform: Curiel said the major issues facing the school district that he is concerned with include the district’s pending deficit, how desegregation dollars are spent and how the district can maintain quality educators and education.
Curiel said he wants to look at how diverse the schools are and if the educators are well-equiped to handle that diversity.
“We need to make education a more holistic approach,” he said.
