District 834 School Board candidate profile: Scott Papke

Incumbent Scott Papke said the fact that he comes from a family of educators adds a lot to his ability to serve the school district. Papke’s parents were both teachers, aunts and uncles were teachers, siblings were teachers and his wife is a teacher at Rutherford Elementary in Stillwater.

Occupation: District manager for a private food service company

Residence: Stillwater

Family: Married with two sons

Civic Involvement: District 834 School Board from 2006-2010.

Reasons for running for School Board: Papke said he decided to run for re-election because of how well the current School Board is working together and the issues they will be facing in the coming year.

“(The incumbents) wanted to make sure we’re going in the right direction and we’re still around to see the strategic plan through,” he said.

Platform: Papke said he is committed to keeping the district fiscally responsible.

“You just have to balance the book,” he said.

Additionally, Papke said he is concerned with improving District 834’s academic scores as well as staying focused on the strategic plan.
