16 candidates running for two City Council seats

Voters will pick from a long list of Woodbury City Council hopefuls on their Nov. 2 general election ballot. The bumper crop of candidates is believed to be a record in Woodbury.

Voters will pick from a long list of Woodbury City Council hopefuls on their Nov. 2 general election ballot. The bumper crop of candidates is believed to be a record in Woodbury.

The five-member council includes the mayor and four council members. Council member Mary Giuliani Stephens is running for mayor, leaving an open council seat. And Julie Ohs’ term on the council ends this year; she is seeking re-election.

In a wide-open race, one thing is certain: the winners will not get rich. Council members earn $6,450 annually. They meet three times a month, serve as liaisons to other city commissions, field phone calls from concerned citizens, attend neighborhood meetings about local issues and participate in other city and regional meetings and events throughout the year.

Fifteen of 16 City Council candidates participated in interviews with Bulletin staff. Jennifer Sutch was the only candidate not to return a request for an interview.
