Unexpected lane closure coming on northbound 61

A pavement problem on a recently revamped stretch of Highway 61 will force a lane closure Wednesday through Thursday, the Minnesota Department of Transportation said Tuesday.

A joint failure on northbound Highway 61 just north of 80th Street will cause the closure of the right lane from 9 a.m. Wednesday through 6 p.m. Thursday while MnDOT crews use fast-curing concrete to repair the problem.

Delays are expected, the department of transportation said in a release — especially during the Thursday morning commute, when thousands of motorists make their way north to Interstate 494, St. Paul and Minneapolis for the workday.

MnDOT has spent the summer resurfacing Highway 61 through Cottage Grove. The department said Tuesday the project is expected to be complete in the next week.
