Local cross-country teams back in action

Royals and Raptors open season in Northfield while Dragons run in Rosemount.

The 2010 cross-country running season opened on Friday as both Woodbury and East Ridge competed at the Rolf Mellby Invitational at St. Olaf College in Northfield, while the Math and Science Academy squads competed in the Irish Invitational in Rosemount.

Individual results were not currently available from the Mellby Invite.

The East Ridge girls finished ninth as a team with 260 points, with Woodbury taking 15th with 376 on the four-kilometer course.

The Woodbury and East Ridge boys placed 19th and 20th, respectively, with 470 and 549 points.

In Rosemount, the MSA girls took 13th with 349 points, with eighth-grader Greta Siekmeier leading the way with a 43rd-place finish in 13 minutes, 16.2 seconds.

Jacob Siekmeier led the Dragons boys to a 12th-place finish with 349 points as the sophomore placed ninth in a time of 10:32.2.
