UPDATE: No second power outage planned

A power outage affecting 325 Woodbury Xcel Energy customers is under way today as the utility repairs electrical lines on the east edge of town.

A planned power outage affecting 325 Woodbury Xcel Energy customers was used Thursday as the utility repaired electrical lines on the east edge of town.

Power was out from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. as crews repaired a power line along Manning Avenue, from Hudson Road south to Valley Creek Road, Xcel Energy spokesman Tom Hoen said. The damaged line is about one mile long.

A second planned outage for Friday or next week was canceled early Thursday afternoon. Instead, crews were to work into the evening to complete the work.

All customers affected by the Thursday outage received a phone call from Xcel Energy on Tuesday.

The repairs were needed because of line damage earlier this month. High temperatures on Aug. 13 overloaded an electric line and caused insulators – the glass pieces used to separate the electric wire from the power pole – to melt, Hoen said. That caused an outage that affected some 6,200 Woodbury customers from 6:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Aug. 13.

The planned outage Thursday was on the east side of Woodbury, Hoen said.
