Senior center: A place for activities and camaraderie
Woodbury’s healthy aging community has plenty of outlets for activities and volunteer opportunities. The South Washington County Senior Center is one such organization that has that sense of community.
Woodbury’s healthy aging community has plenty of outlets for activities and volunteer opportunities. The South Washington County Senior Center is one such organization that has that sense of community.
Conveniently located near the intersection of U.S. Highway 61 and Jamaica Avenue in Cottage Grove, the multipurpose center sponsors dozens of monthly activities for golden agers with varied interests. More than 300 older adults throughout south Washington County are members.
The organization sponsors many trips, dances, potlucks and parties, along with exercise classes and games like: Bunco, Bingo, bowling, Mah-Jongg and chess.
Classes are also held for a variety of interests and needs including: music, legal and tax assistance, a book discussion, health screenings, card playing and quilting.
Dining services are also organized five days a week.
Members come from all walks of life from in and around Woodbury, Cottage Grove, etc. Some look to the center’s programs as a source of daily enrichment and drop in every day. Others are semi-retired and attend only a few activities each year.
Sponsored by School District 833 Community Education, the senior center is always looking for new ways to serve members.
The center’s hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Congregate dining is served at 11:30 a.m. Mondays through Fridays. The center is located in the School District’s Program Center at 8400 E. Point Douglas Road. For more information, call (651) 458-6650.
