Nearly 850 volunteers gathered at King of Kings Lutheran Church in Woodbury over the weekend to package ready-to-cook meals for the Feed My Starving Children organization.
Each small package of rice contains six servings. Organizers said they packaged 212,760 meals during the two-day event. That amount could feed 583 children for one year.
Feed My Starving Children supervisor Ursula Maley said the organization ships food packages to impoverished people in 67 countries.
The church also had a goal of raising $34,000 to pay for the food that was packaged. It collected $36,169.
