Democrat Maureen Reed dropped out of the 6th District congressional race Sunday, clearing a path for fellow DFLer Tarryl Clark to square off against Republican U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann.
Reed, who lives near Stillwater, lost the party endorsement to Clark in April, but had vowed to run in the Aug. 10 primary election. She filed for office May 25.
Reed announced Sunday she was suspending her campaign.
Clark is a state senator from St. Cloud. Bachmann is seeking her third two-year term in the U.S. House.
Two other candidates filed to run in the 6th District -- Independence Party candidate Bob Anderson of Woodbury and independent candidate Aubrey Immelman of Sartell.
The 6th District includes most of Woodbury and eastern and northern Twin Cities suburbs, and it stretches west of St. Cloud.
