Eagles stay on roll with Schmidt perfecto
New Life pitcher strikes out 13 without giving up hit or walk in Eagles win.
New Life pitcher Rebekah Schmidt tossed a perfect game as the Eagles softballers remained atop the Minnesota Christian Athletic Association with a 15-0 victory over Meadow Creek Christian on Thursday, May 6.
The junior struck out 13 Meadow Creek batters without giving up a hit or a walk in the abbreviated road victory.
Schmidt also hit a three-run home run in the contest with Andrea Peterfeso going 3-for-4 with four runs batted in.
The Eagles improved to 12-1 overall and 6-0 in MCAA play with the victory, then added three more victories to the win total with a blemishless appearance in a tournament hosted by Bethlehem Academy in Faribault on Saturday, May 8.
Schmidt gave up just one hit over 16 2/3 innings of work across the three games, including pitching a no-hitter in a 2-0 win against Martin Luther and hurling another 2-0 shutout against United South Central. The junior tossed 2 2/3 hitless innings against their Bethlehem hosts before being relieved in a 6-2 Eagles win.
For the tournament, Schmidt went 6-for-8 with five runs batted in and three scored. Amanda Heidmann went 4-for-10 in the tourney with two runs scored and one RBI, with Katie Stodolka going 4-for-10 in Faribault with 2 runs and one RBI.
