– Mara Stewart of Woodbury, was named a State Finalist in the Minnesota State High School League “‘Triple A’ Academics, Arts, and Athletics Award.” She was one of only 36 students (18 male, 18 female) selected from 435 MSHSL member high schools across the state. The award is given to “seniors who have excelled in the classroom, on the athletic field, and in the fine arts.”
Stewart a senior at Woodbury High School, ranks near the top of her graduating class, competed at State, earned several all-conference honors, was a Pioneer Press athlete of the week, a team captain for two years, earned four varsity letters in cross country, participated in all-conference band, the South Washington Community Band, in solo ensemble competitions and more.
She attributes her success to the many outstanding teachers and coaches she has had throughout her education in Woodbury.
– Timothy Schoen of Woodbury was selected as a top 20 cadet in the junior class at Saint Thomas Academy, Mendota Heights. Fourteen of the top 20 students will be chosen to lead the Corps for the 2010-2011 school year.
The 14 junior class officers selected will be named Monday, May 17 and will then take command of the Corps at the Change of Command breakfast.
– Kathleen Elizabeth Bauer was part of an inaugural group of 81 students from the College of Saint Benedict, St. Joseph, and Saint John’s University, Collegeville, accepted into the Theta of Minnesota Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at CSB at SJU.formally initiated at a ceremony on Tuesday, April 27.
Bauer, a senior biology major at the college, is the daughter of Diane Bauer and Mark Bauer of Woodbury.
The criteria for being inducted into Phi Beta Kappa are grade-point average (3.75 for juniors, 3.65 for seniors) and a liberal arts major. The selection committee also looks at breadth and depth of the student’s program and other achievements, such as a thesis or other research.
