The spring campaigns got off to varying starts for two Woodbury High School sports teams on Wednesday night as the Royals boys tennis team topped Tartan at home, while the WHS baseball squad fell at Rosemount.
It was an impressive start for the Royals netters, who thumped visiting Tartan, 6-1, to hand new coach Derek Otto a win in the season opener. Individual stats were not yet available. Woodbury hosts St. Paul Harding on Friday.
The news was not as good for the Woodbury horsehiders, however, as Rosemount rallied from a 4-0 deficit in the final two innings to top the Royals, 5-4. Individual stats were not yet available. Coach Kevin McDermott's club travels to take on new crosstown rival East Ridge on Monday.
The Raptors baseball team hosts River Falls (Wis.) in its first-ever game on Thursday afternoon on its home field at the Bielenberg Sports Center. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
The Woodbury girls track and field team opens its season on Thursday afternoon in a multi-team meet at Richfield High School, while the Raptors boys track and field team kicks off its inaugural schedule with a trip to White Bear Lake.
