Gymnasts wrap seasons at State

Robinette takes 13th in Class AA all-around; Gubbels 27th in Class AA vault.

The 2009-10 gymnastics season came to a conclusion on a spring-like Saturday afternoon as four local girls took to competition for one final time this high school season.

East Ridge's three-member contingent was led by Section 1A all-around champion Leah Robinette. The Raptors junior took 13th in the Class A State all-around with a total score of 36.125.

Robinette's top event finish was fourth on vault, with the Raptor earning a 9.60. She also took sixth on floor exercise, with a 9.425. The sophomore placed 11th on uneven bars with an 8.875, but dipped in the overall all-around standings after not placing in the top 30 on balance beam with a score of 8.225 to her credit.

Joining Robinette at State were eighth-graders Keliana Thompson and Kelly McKenzie.

McKenzie placed 20th on vault with a score of 9.3625, with Thompson taking 29th on uneven bars with a 8.00.

Vanessa Gubbels carried the torch for Woodbury all by herself as the Royals' lone State participant in this year's Class AA meet. The Royals junior took 27th in the Class AA vault competition with a score of 9.3375.
