Woodbury archery team to host tournament

Area K-12 squad welcomes regional competition to Woodbury Middle School next weekend.

Hundreds of area arrow-slingers will invade the Woodbury Middle School as the Woodbury archery team, made up of local youth ranging from kindergarten through 12th grade, hosts the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) Region 3 Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 13.

Woodbury itself is expecting to field a total squad in excess of 47 members for tournament play, while teams from White Bear Lake, New Prague, Mound-Westonka and St. Paul also anticipated to take part in the day of competition.

"It should be a great day," said Rob Graber, who is helping to organize the tournament and has two sons — Andy and Joe — on the Woodbury team. "We're looking forward to the 13th."

It will be the first tournament that Woodbury, co-coached by WMS assistant principal Keith Burcar and Deb Luzinski, will host as the team continues to grow in its fourth season of existence.

Tournament play will take place in four separate divisions (K-3, 4-6, 7-8, 9-12) beginning at 8 a.m. and running through approximately 2 p.m.
