Royals snap eight-game losing streak

Woodbury wins at Roseville for first victory since Dec. 18.

Most bad things must come to an end and it did for the Woodbury boys basketball team as the Royals snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 74-69 victory at Roseville on Tuesday night.

It was the first win for the Royals since a Dec. 18 victory over Park concluded what was, at the time, a three-game winning streak that had WHS over the .500 mark briefly before the skid began three nights later at St. Paul Central.

Woodbury streaked to a 43-25 halftime lead that they held onto despite a hellacious Raiders rally over the final 18 minutes as forward Nick Quicksell led all scorers with 31 points, while Royal forwards Chris Fleck and Austin Nelson contributed 15 and 10 points, respectively.

The victory improved Woodbury's record to 4-10 on the season and pulled the Royals into eighth place in the Suburban East Conference standings with a 2-6 league mark, one game better than neighboring East Ridge — whom coach Scott Swansson's club hosts on Friday night in "The Lion's Den" at WHS.
