The community is invited to attend the Bailey Elementary School Geography Bee from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14 at the school, 4125 Woodlane Drive, Woodbury.
The National Geographic Society hosts the annual “National Geographic Bee” for students in fourth through eighth grades in thousands of schools across the United States and in the five U.S. territories, as well as in the Department of Defense Dependents schools around the world.
At Bailey, fourth and fifth grade students competed within their classrooms in December. The winner from each classroom will compete in the Jan. 14 event.
The winner of the Bailey Bee will advance to the next level of competition, a written examination to determine state competitors. The top of that contest will be eligible to compete in the state-level competition. The state champion will be eligible to compete in the national championship in Washington D.C. for the first prize of a $25,000 college scholarship.
