The Woodbury wrestling team took its lumps at 10th-ranked Forest Lake on Thursday, Dec. 17, falling 51-18 to the Rangers.

Five Royals won their indivudual matches as the hosts won nine to hand WHS its third Suburban East Conference defeat in four league meets.

Claiming victories in their respective weight classes were Woodbury wrestlers Justin Herold-Plakut (103 pounds), Ben Donnelly (125), Brandon Borchardt (135), Connor Harreld (145) and C.J. Hays (189).

Austin Hassenauer returned to the squad after recovering from a concussion suffered during the football season. The senior wrestled for the Royals junior varsity squad on Thursday.

“We gave him some JV matches to get his lungs back before he starts wrestling with the varsity,” coach Justin Smith said. “He should provide us with some added punch at the back end of the line-up.”

The Royals travel to Mahtomedi on Tuesday, Dec. 22, in their final pre-holiday performance.
