Royals gymnasts remain unbeaten

Woodbury tops East Ridge in neighborhood battle.

The Woodbury gymnastics team remained undefeated on the season with a 138.1-134.65 defeat of East Ridge on Thursday, Dec. 17 at WHS.

It was a cordial evening between the two neighboring teams that featured several competitors that wore the same team colors until this season and the night featured several glad tidings and even some crossover cheers from one squad to the other.

In the end, the Royals were able to fend off the visitors, who dropped to 0-3 on the season despite putting up another team-best score.

Woodbury’s Jenna Kilgore took top honors in the all-around competition with a score of 35.65, with the Raptors Kelly McKenzie and Leah Robinette placing second and third, respectively, in the all-around with scores of 35.425 and 35.0.

Kilgore won the floor exercise with a 9.1 and tied McKenzie for first on the balance beam as each posted a 9.0.

Robinette took the top spot in both vault — with a 9.525 — and the uneven bars — earning an 8.875.

The East Ridge junior varsity claimed its first-ever win by defeating the Woodbury J.V., 119.90-110.50 as Jordan Weiss won the all-around competition with a score of 30.15.

The Raptors took part in the Viking Invitational in North Branch while the Royals participated in the Eastview Invite in Apple Valley on Saturday, Dec. 19, however scores from those contests were not currently available.

Both clubs are now off from competition until Thursday, Jan. 7. The Royals travel to White Bear Lake that night, while the Raptors are scheduled to host Mounds View.
