The East Ridge boys basketball team headed into the final days before Christmas with a 3-2 overall record after splitting its pair of games last week at home.

After scorching Minneapolis Edison in a 72-42 victory on Tuesday, December 15, the Raptors came up on the short end of a 76-62 result versus Mounds View in the Suburban East Conference opener three nights later.

East Ridge head coach Paul Virgin remained upbeat about his squad in spite of the loss to the Mustangs.

“We are shooting the ball very well and on Friday we played bigger than our height (against Mounds View),” he said, while noting the squad needs to “take care of the ball better.”

Forward Dillon Johnson led the Raptors with 15 points against Edison, with guard John Hietpas netting 12 points and center Adam Schwartz logging 10 points. Guard Jake Coquyt amassed a team-high 18 points against Mounds View, with Hietpas recording 15 points.

East Ridge takes on fellow first-year school Chanhassen on Tuesday, Dec. 22 and hosts St. Paul Como Park Wednesday, Dec. 23. The Raptors travel to take on St. Paul Harding in their final game of 2009 on Tuesday, Dec. 29.
