What is Relay for Life?
• Relay for Life is an overnight fundraising vigil held in communities throughout the country and sponsored by the American Cancer Association (ACS). Proceeds raised for the event go to ACS cancer research and support.
• The Relay For Life event concept was started in 1985 when Dr. Gordy Klatt of Tacoma, Wash. Began circled a track for 24 hours in order to raise funds for cancer research.
• Each Relay For Life begins with a “Survivors Lap” where those who have been diagnosed with cancer kickoff the event by walking a lap together around the track.
