4-H gets county aid

The Washington County 4-H program will remain at least through next year – with some help from taxpayers.
The Washington County Board voted 4-0 Dec. 8 to give the 4-H program $30,000 toward its 2010 operations.
The 4-H program was to lose county support next year, so supporters began raising private funds earlier this year to keep it afloat.
The group sought $110,000, but only raised $80,000. County commissioners, citing county budget constraints, said they would approve a one-time grant of $30,000 but want 4-H to be funded differently beginning in 2011.
