SWC claims second victory versus Hawks
Royal Raptors girls hockey team claims second victory in as many tries against Robbinsdale Cooper.By: Tom Carothers, Woodbury Bulletin
The South Washington County girls hockey team claimed its second win of the year by sweeping the season series against Robbinsdale Cooper by means of a 6-1 triumph in the west metro on Friday night.
While it was not quite as dominating of a performance for the Royal Raptors -- SWC topped Cooper, 9-0, in the season opener at the Bielenberg Sports Center last week -- the victory did improve the Woodbury/East Ridge conglomerate to 2-1 on the 2009-10 campaign.
Alexa Jacobsen and Clare Shaw scored for SWC to put the visitors up 2-0 in the second period before the Royal Raptors countered the Hawks lone goal of the game with four of their own in the final frame -- two from Emily Moris, one each from April Weller and Rachel Letsche -- for the final five-goal spread.
Goaltender Jessica Taplin made 14 saves to secure the victory for SWC, who travel to the Cottage Grove Ice Arena for a Suburban East Conference matchup against Park on Tuesday night.
