Raptors finish regular season at 0-8
A 32-20 at Forest Lake keeps East Ridge without an inaugural season gridiron win.By: Tom Carothers, Woodbury Bulletin
If the East Ridge football team is to win a game in its inaugural season, it will have to come against a Class AAAA team, not a Class AAAAA squad.
The Raptors wrapped up regular season play on Tuesday night with their eighth loss of the year against zero victories after a 32-20 loss on the natural grass field at Forest Lake.
After giving up the first touchdown in the opening quarter, East Ridge knotted the count at 6-6 on a 14-yard touchdown run from Dayo Idowu. Both teams missed their extra-point conversions.
It would not cost the Rangers, however, who scored the next 20 points before halftime to put the game out of reach, 26-6, at the break.
Another Idowu touchdown, this time a 24-yard run, in the third-quarter along with a one-yard scoring plunge from fullback Austin Fischer in the fourth, pulled the Raptors to within a single score at 26-20, before a final touchdown from the hosts put the game away and brought the score to its final 12-point spread.
The loss dropped East Ridge to 0-8 in its first-ever campaign as the squad now proceeds to Section 4AAAA play with a matchup at 6-2 St. Paul Central on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.
