Woodbury City Council members will wear a new hat as Economic Development Authority commissioners.

The council voted Oct. 14 to change the structure of the city’s Economic Development Authority, replacing volunteer appointees with elected officials.

The Economic Development Authority oversees the city’s business loan and financing programs. The panel has property tax levying authority, which was a concern for some citizen volunteer commissioners who were uncomfortable raising property taxes, Mayor Bill Hargis said.

Economic Development Authority meetings will occur about six times a year, before council meetings.

Council members already serve as Housing and Redevelopment Authority commissioners.
