Royals win big on Homecoming

Edwards runs wild on Forest Lake as Royals go to 3-1 on season.

Running back Lamonte Edwards ran for 174 yards and four touchdowns as the Woodbury football team bounced back from its worst outing in three seasons in defeating Forest Lake, 39-12, at Homecoming at Royals Stadium on Friday night.

The Rangers proved to be little competition for a Woodbury squad bent on making up for last week's 35-7 loss at Mounds View as the Royals ran up a sizable lead on the shoulders of their Gophers recruit before cruising in the second half to the eventual victory.

Besides Edwards' mammoth effort, the host Royals also managed a touchdown on a 22-yard pass from quarterback Eric Giddings to running back Anthony Osifuye before capping off the scoring on a 66-yard touchdown trot from back Junius Wilson in the game's closing moments to bring the count to its would-be final.

Back in the win column, the Royals will now prepare to host Suburban East Conference nemesis Stillwater next Friday evening.

The Ponies are 4-0 on the season, including a win over Mounds View earlier this season, as well as defeating Forest Lake 35-0 last week and Roseville 28-7 on Friday.
