East Ridge High School is proud to announce the hiring of Hans Horning as head wrestling coach. Horning comes to East Ridge with more than twelve years of coaching experience at the high school and college levels.
He served as an assistant coach at Minnesota-Morris for two seasons before beginning his high school coaching and teaching career and most recently he was an assistant coach at Pierz High School. He has coached wrestling at BOLD, Waseca, and Zimmerman, and has worked with all levels of school, youth, freestyle and Greco-Roman programs throughout his career. He has also been a Minnesota State High School wrestling referee for the past seven seasons.
As a wrestler, Horning was a state place-winner for Willmar High School. He wrestled in college for two years at Mankato State University and two years at the University of Minnesota-Morris. Horning is excited for the opportunity to start a wrestling program at East Ridge and looks forward to building a program that will compete with the best in the state.
“Working with wrestlers at all age levels is extremely important to creating a strong program and the foundation is in place for that to happen at East Ridge,” he said. “I am anxious to get this program off the ground and look forward to the challenge.”
A “Meet and Greet” for East Ridge wrestlers and families with coach Horning will be held on Thursday, Sept. 3 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the East Ridge High School Activities Center.
