The Woodbury Night to Unite is set for Tuesday, Aug. 4 and to date more than 35 neighborhoods are signed up to participate in the annual event centered on neighbors forming relationships to discourage crime.

This is the first year the city is using the name Night to Unite for its annual evening out against crime. In the past the city used the National Night Out title.

The Night to Unite, a program of the Minnesota Crime Prevention Association (MCPA), is co-sponsored this year by AAA.

The Woodbury Public Safety Department decided to organize the annual event under the new title in attempt to no longer affiliate itself with the National Association of Town Watch, which has fallen under public scrutiny the last few years when the public gained knowledge regarding the compensation the executive director for the organization was earning.

The funds to support Night to Unite program primarily come from the Department of Justice and membership fees paid by law enforcement agencies throughout the county.

The deadline has already passed for neighborhoods to register their block parties, but for more information go to: http://www.ci.woodbury.mn.us/policefire/psn2u.html
