Blue packs a punch

Woodbury Legion Blue baseball team finds its groove in throttling South St. Paul, 13-1.

Not one week removed from a 13-0 loss on its home field to Oakdale, the Woodbury Legion Blue turned the tables in a big way against visiting South Saint Paul on Tuesday night, thumping the Packers, 13-1 in five innings.

The big blow on the windswept evening was a no-doubt-about-it grand slam home run off the bat of Cole Volkers in the fourth inning, while Andrew Herbert drove in three runs of his own on a 3-for-3 day at the plate. Mike Harman, serving as the battery mate for pitcher Rich Klein, went 4-for-4 with two runs batted in and a stolen base, while Peter Young also drove in a pair of RBI.

With the bats at play, Klein kept the Packers at bay with an abbreviated complete-game, five-strikeout gem in the convincing Woodbury win.

The victory improved Blue to 13-10 as they prepare to host Inver Grove Heights at the Woodbury High School baseball field on Thursday evening.
