Dan Guider, one of Woodbury's longtime locally-elected officials, died Saturday in hospice care after it was learned several weeks earlier he had liver cancer.

Funeral and memorial services will be held Wednesday and Thursday, family and friends said.

The Woodbury City Council is expected to push back it regularly scheduled meeting to 8 p.m. Wednesday to allow for council members and staff to attend the memorial, family members said.

A Vietnam veteran and a University of Minnesota alumnus, Guider began his service to the city of Woodbury when he was elected to the city council in 1974. He ran for mayor in 1982 and served in that capacity until 1990.

He is credited by his contemporaries for helping to lead the city on a steady path born out of a vision established by his predecessor, Woodbury's first mayor, Orville Bielenberg.

Guider was 66.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour before mass Thursday at the church.

More on this story will be available in the Wednesday, June 10 print edition of the Woodbury Bulletin and at www.woodburybulletin.com
