Math and science programs get a little burst of ingenuity
School District 833 math and science teachers in grades 3 – 8 will be recognized at a 3M awards presentation May 6, for their creative ideas and desire to bring innovative teaching methods and learning activities into the classroom, their commitment to students, and excellence in math and science teaching.

Eleven 3M Ingenuity Grants totaling $31,189 were awarded to South Washington County School District 833 schools including $3,294 to Lake Junior High School, Woodbury for “Instant Feedback,” a project by science teacher Andrew Craig, and $2,136 to Lake Junior High School for “Observation Hive – Window to the World of Honey Bees,” proposed by science teachers Logan Carstensen and Nick Jasiczek. Other awards in the district included $3,412, Cottage Grove Junior High for “Flip, Color, Compare, Analyze: Looking at math a little less traditionally,” $1,484, Cottage Grove Junior High for “Boning up on Bones,” $3,476, Cottage Grove Junior High for “Let’s Play Jeopardy,” $3,344, Cottage Grove Junior High for “Fractions - No Problem,” $3,119, Grey Cloud Elementary for “Pencils Down! A math approach beyond paper and pencil,” $2,570, Grey Cloud Elementary for “3D Science,” $2,350, Oltman Junior High for “Implementation of technology software in the Mathematics classroom,” $2,500, Oltman Junior High for “Feed it, Move it, Protect it: The Human Body Experience,” and $3,500, Pullman Elementary for “Math Fun at Home and School.”
With 3Ms financial support, teachers will be able to buy materials that will engage students and provide hands-on learning experiences.
