Woodbury High School selects 2009-2010 cheerleaders

Woodbury High School has selected its cheerleaders for the 2009-2010 school year. Over 90 students attended tryouts on April 9, and 63 were named to the varsity and junior varsity teams.

Woodbury High School has selected its cheerleaders for the 2009-2010 school year. Over 90 students attended tryouts on April 9, and 63 were named to the varsity and junior varsity teams.

New to the program this year is the addition of a competition squad. These cheerleaders will compete against similarly-sized teams at local competitions throughout the 2009-2010 school year. Competition routines

incorporate stunting, tumbling, jumps, cheer and dance, and allow the team members to compete as athletes against other high school squads.

With longtime coach Wendy Schauer moving to Texas, the Royals will be coached by Andria Mattlin of White Bear Lake. Mattlin has cheerleading experience from White Bear Lake High School, Planet Spirit All Stars, Iowa State University and the University of St. Thomas.

Mattlin currently serves as the Marketing Coordinator for the Minnesota Cheerleading Coaches Association and has spent time coaching and judging competitions in the past.

“These cheerleaders have a great background, and they are all ready to take their talent to the next level,” the new coach said. “With the sideline season and addition of competition, I am thrilled to see what this season will bring them.”

The 41 varsity cheerleaders are Ashley Almsted, Courtney Beck, Brooke Braaten, Brittany Brackett, Olivia Carr, Megan Cartier, Sara Cartier, Sarah Chau, Kadie Crawford, Alyssa Domagalski, Gianna Eggert, Megan Engfer, Megan Englund, Kristen Ford, Kristina Gardner, Casey Gergen, Key-C Green, Raquel Halfen, Monique Harper, Lindsey Hildebrandt, Alex Hinze, Karlyn Hood, Victoria Idoqu, Kaitlyn Jackson, Daphne Jalteco, Kylie Jensen, Becky Jurvis, Taylor Kaupa, Jenna Kilgore, Madeline Kujawa, Carissa Le, Callie McLaughlin, Chelsie McPherson, Sammy Momah, Emily Neilsen, Sarah Opitz, Ashley Sao, Chelsea Seebeck, Madison Seebeck, Courtni Weber and Amanda Wiggins.

The 22 junior varsity cheerleaders are Kennedy Bertram, Alex Drew, Aubrey Dudley, Carley Engfer, Marina Hart, Allison Herzog, Emma Jensen, Izzy Johnson, Kiara Jung, Monica Kelley, Rachel Kelley, Karlie Kurtz, Ashley Rodriguez, Breanna Rodriguez, Jordyn Sartain, Maya Schulte, Jordyn Sears, Alicia Simon, Samantha Strand, Kiana Sutherlin, Kristie Westerbeck and Hannah Wise.

The Woodbury cheerleaders’ first event of the year will be acting as “Cure Leader” cheerleaders at the Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure event, held at the Mall of America on May 10.
