Woodbury High School has selected its cheerleaders for the 2009-2010 school year. Over 90 students attended tryouts on April 9, and 63 were named to the varsity and junior varsity teams.
New to the program this year is the addition of a competition squad. These cheerleaders will compete against similarly-sized teams at local competitions throughout the 2009-2010 school year. Competition routines
incorporate stunting, tumbling, jumps, cheer and dance, and allow the team members to compete as athletes against other high school squads.
With longtime coach Wendy Schauer moving to Texas, the Royals will be coached by Andria Mattlin of White Bear Lake. Mattlin has cheerleading experience from White Bear Lake High School, Planet Spirit All Stars, Iowa State University and the University of St. Thomas.
Mattlin currently serves as the Marketing Coordinator for the Minnesota Cheerleading Coaches Association and has spent time coaching and judging competitions in the past.
