Local units of the Boy Scouts will be out Saturday morning, April 25, collecting food for the Northern Star Council's "Scouting for Food" event.
Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturing Crews, as well as some Girl Scout Troops, have distributed bags or door hangers during the week to notify residents of the food pick-up Saturday morning between 9 a.m. and noon.
The Riverwood District, which serves Scouting units from Woodbury in the south to Marine in St. Croix on the north, had donations of more than 9,000 pounds of food last year.
The food is brought to Christian Cupboard at Woodbury Lutheran Church, and Valley Outreach in Stillwater, where Scouts and helpers weigh, sort and stock the shelves with food collected.
"We want this year to be even better", said Riverwood's Scouting for Food coordinator, Brenda Doneux. "The need is greater than ever. We have 22 units participating, and expect to distribute about 10,000 bags or door hanger reminders throughout the district. We can't get to every neighborhood, but we will cover a lot of the area."
Residents who don't find a Scouting for Food bag or door hanger on their door can still bring donations to the Food Shelf on Saturday between 9:00 and noon.
Valley Outreach is located at 1911 Curve Crest Blvd. in Stillwater.
Christian Cupboard at Woodbury Lutheran is at 7380 Afton Road in Woodbury.
