Washington County’s new, nearly $60 million 911 call center opened for business early morning April 7.

County Sheriff Bill Hutton told commissioners that staff were excited for the opening in the new digs that has plenty of windows, a far cry from the old center which was located in the basement of the law enforcement center.

For the first few hours of the switch, the county operated both the old and the new centers to make sure all the new equipment was working correctly, Hutton said.

The layout of the new call center is six times bigger than the previous work space and is more ergonomically friendly, Hutton said.
