The Woodbury Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for its community scholarship program. This year the chamber will award thirteen $1,000 scholarships. Applications will be accepted between March 16 and April 17, 2009.

To be eligible, applicants must be a resident of Woodbury or a 2009 graduate of a Woodbury high school and must be pursuing post-secondary education at either a two-year or four-year educational or vocational institution in the summer or fall of 2009.

Students will be selected based on participation and leadership in school and community activities and work experience; personal circumstances relating to need; academic achievement; and their response to the essay question: If you were to return to your community following your education, how would you be involved in the community and what would you do to improve it?

A brief description, in résumé format, should include your involvement in school activities; any volunteer and work experience; career and educational goals; and your personal need for scholarship funds.

Applications are available online at www.woodburychamber.org and at high school counseling offices. Interested students should mail the application, their one-page typed essay (no more than 500 words in length), additional materials and their transcript to: Education Committee, Woodbury Chamber of Commerce, 7650 Currell Blvd., Suite 360, Woodbury, MN, 55125.

Students selected to receive the scholarships will be notified during the first week of May. Representatives of the Chamber will attend, where possible, award events to make a formal presentation. Once notified, students should submit their educational institution name and address so a check may be sent to that institution.
